YOUTH

Four Way Speech Contest

The purpose of the 4-Way Test is to foster the principles of ethics in everyday life as well as in business. The Speech Contest is designed to introduce high school students to Rotary and the 4-Way Test by creating interest through a competitive speech contest, sponsored by their local Rotary club. The specific goals of the Contest are to:
• Acquaint a large number of youth with Rotary, and specifically, the tenets of the 4-Way Test.
• Demonstrate and enhance Rotarians’ commitment to youth.
• Heighten awareness of Rotary among parents, school officials, and the community at large.
• Recognize, encourage and reward hard work and accomplishment in our youth.
• Provide an opportunity for Rotarians to participate in a Community/Vocational Service program which focuses on the 4-Way Test as our standard of behavior.

This year’s contest was held on April 12 at the regular meeting of Grants Pass Rotary. The contestants were: Grants Pass Rotary and GPHS: Gage Flaming
IV Rotary and IVHS: Abbigayle Jolley
Rogue Gateway Rotary and NVHS: Ben Givens
Greater Grants Pass Rotary and HVHS: Garret Marcoulier

INTERACT

Interact is a service club for youth ages 12-18. Clubs benefit from sponsorship by individual Rotary clubs, which provide support and guidance.  The Grants Pass Rotary Club sponsors two Interact Clubs, one at Grants Pass High School and one at Brighton Academy.

RYLA

Rotary Youth Leadership Academy is a 6-day summer camp for high school students.  It focuses on leadership development, team problem solving, communication and conflict resolution, ethical decision making, and community citizenship.  The Grants Pass Rotary Club sends three students to RYLA each year (two from our Grants Pass High School Interact Club and one from our Brighton Academy Interact Club).
